Moving & Downsizing

Moving can be overwhelming but it doesn't have to be... support is available

Moving and/or downsizing is a great opportunity to take stock of absolutely everything in your home.  Moving provides the motivation to declutter and this often makes it easier to make decisions.

Downsizing (and moving) holds huge potential to simplify your life and focus on what truly matters.

It can be a smooth effortless transition.

Question: Where to start?

Answer: Start Early – Start Now.

Starting early is crucial – by decluttering you will have less to pack and unpack and can lower moving costs.

Moving – a window of opportunity

Moving/downsizing should not be underestimated due to the time, the resources and the energy required for the process which often can be emotional challenging.

It usually involves more than just sorting through furniture and boxes. It's the decisions of what to take, especially when viewing items that have sentimental value.

It is a process which involves reassessing your relationship with your belongings and the attachments – if you have difficulty in letting go, getting professional support can be highly beneficial. â€‹â€‹

There is so much to manage, organise, and plan.  How to prioritize? What needs attending to first? Where to start?

What is Key is shifting the mindset from seeing it as a burden and challenging to viewing the move as a significant opportunity to clear out all the old baggage – things you have been hanging onto for years, that no longer serves a purpose – yet is taking up space in your house: â€‹

  • Those old pieces of furniture that you don’t like but the in-laws gave you

  • Furniture that has been needing to be replaced for some time but never got round to replacing or simply odd or spare furniture without a purpose

  • The kids moved out years ago – their rooms remain untouched.

  • Do you have a garage – great place to start clearing out and sorting if you are moving/downsizing – see my garage page.

And yes the clutter!  Actually, it can be all the ‘small stuff’ that takes the most time to sort out!

Moving provides a significant and potent space to view all your belongings/possessions, and sort out into categories such as:

  • Things that are going to family members

  • Things for charity

  • Things for selling

  • Things for the trash.

Once categories are sorted – decisions become clearer. And means Less to Pack and Unpack.

Start the moving process at least 2/3 months prior to avoid stress and overwhelm. â€‹

New Home
A brand new home - A  fresh new beginning – a fresh uncluttered home is  a beautiful present to yourself...

Having all your favourite things boxed, labelled and in order– makes the unpacking in your new home a joyful process.

I have moved many times – including moving country and then moving back years later.  I can tell you it is a huge process, a process Not to Be Underestimated – but it can also be incredibly transforming!

And most importantly – START EARLY!  Start now and eliminate stress.

Moving is an amazing opportunity for you to embrace the new beginning with the purpose of  simplifying your life, and creating space for your next chapter to unfold.
